A NEW APPROACH TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN ROŽAJE

The north of Montenegro has unimagined potential for the development of tourism

Organized by the Local Tourist Organization i Faculty of Business and Tourism from Budva, A round table was held in Rožaje on the strategy of tourism development in that municipality. The meeting was opened by the vice-president of the municipality, Mirsad Azemović, emphasizing that tourism is one of the strategic branches of the development of that municipality. He said that they are working on the development of a plan.

documentation for the valorization of Hajla, Štedima and Rusolija, and that they plan to complete the project as soon as possible.

-With all our efforts, we need the support of you experts, the Government and the relevant ministry, in order to position Hajla at the very top of Montenegrin tourism - said Azemović.

On behalf of the Tourist Organization, the meeting was welcomed by Amel Dedeić, who presented the "Very Ibra" project, assessing that it has exceptional tourist potential. He explained that seven summer houses will be built at the source of the river, as well as a running track, a bicycle path, a children's playground and other facilities, which, he said, will complete the city's tourist offer.

Prof. Dr. Rade Ratković, Dean of the Faculty of Budva, stated that Rožaje has great potential for the development of tourism.

- I think that such gatherings can support the development of tourism because what is talked about usually comes true. Rožaje, as part of the cluster of five "Bjelasica-Komovi-Prokletije" has great comparative advantages for the development of alternative tourism based on agro-tourism, i.e. the integration of rural agriculture and tourism. It is a model that enables the rapid employment of labor force, which is a great need of this region. I think that this type of tourism provides the greatest opportunity for employment because we have income from two branches, from rural, healthy agricultural organic food and from tourism. This is a great chance for Rožaje and the surrounding area - said Ratković. He pointed out that ski tourism should not be neglected, but assessed that it is in a global crisis.

Montenegro was never recognized as an international destination but as a regional destination in the field of ski tourism. With that in mind, we must not make any investments on this plan to bring ourselves into losses, that is, to the point of ruining the beauty of the mountains for summer tourism that lasts for five months. The state should actively support investments in alternative tourism, which does not require large funds, but only good organization and synchronization and a mediating role from the state level. I think that forces should be integrated on that. The North also has a great perspective because it would be a supplier of quality organic products to the coast and a place where people would like to come and stay - said Ratković.

Speaking about the development of tourism in Rožaj, an experienced tourism expert, Darko Bulatović, director of Eco Katun Vila Jelka from Kolašin, said that Rožaj needs two ski lifts that should be valorized. He suggested that Hajla remain "wild" and untouched, because that is exactly the type of destination the western market is looking for.

- Hajla offers unimagined possibilities. The best way to open Hajla is to open an eco-cotton and an eco-village at the start. Emphasis should be placed on agro-eco-tourism through a family business in the production of healthy food, which is a guarantee of achieving success - said Bulatović, emphasizing that tourism would be practically destroyed, if the construction of a large ski resort in the area of Hajla is planned.

Speaking about the connection between mountain and coastal tourism, Ana Tripković Marković, assistant dean of the Faculty of Business and Tourism in Budva, said that the biggest obligation of local tourist organizations in the north is to offer a tourist product different from the offer at sea.

Miško Radjenović spoke about the development and creation of a new tourist venture and product, while Emina Kriještorac spoke in front of "Montenegro adventure"talked about plans in the field of tourism for this year and the next.
