BERAN LANDFILL A DANGER TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM

The President of the Municipality, Nusret Kalač, strongly condemned the proposal of the Beran local administration to locate the new temporary landfill behind the Lokva tunnel, in the area of the Cmiljevica mountain, and as far as we know, the Beran parliament will decide on this tomorrow (Thursday, April 3, 2014) at an urgently scheduled extraordinary session. .

He informed Prime Minister Milo Đukanović, Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Branimir Gvozdenović, Director General of the Directorate for Waste Management and Communal Development Siniša Stanković, President of the Municipality of Berana Dragoslav Šćekić and President of the Municipal Assembly Goran Kiković in writing about his and his fellow citizens' displeasure.

For Kalač, such a solution is unacceptable for several reasons, which is why, as the president of the municipality, he will, by all means allowed by law, advocate that the temporary landfill is not located on the threshold of the Rožaj municipality.

"This is a location that is designated as a tourist zone in the planning documents of Montenegro. Certain tourist infrastructure has already been built in that part, so a temporary landfill would mean stopping the development of that economic branch for two municipalities. The flora and fauna, as well as at least two rivers, would suffer negative consequences. We understand the waste disposal problems faced by the municipality of Beran, but we believe that this is a forced solution that can cause far-reaching consequences for the two cities. We hope that the local government in Berane and the competent state institutions will recognize the general long-term interests and make a decision that will not jeopardize economic development and interpersonal relations", said Kalač.
